WELCOME TO FOX GLACIER SCHOOL.
Kia ora and welcome to Fox Glacier School. We look forward to working with you and your child. Fox Glacier School is a very special little kura with a big heart. We hope that you will enjoy your time here in our beautiful and unique surroundings. Fox Glacier School fosters a warm and inclusive environment where students can thrive academically, socially, and personally.
Our Fox Glacier School Tikanga
At Fox Glacier School we want our ākonga to be caring, confident, successful learners who respect themselves, others, and the environment. We want all our students to be engaged in their learning, feel successful, and enjoying their time at our school.
Our School culture is based on our Fox Glacier School Tikanga. It encompasses our school motto - Inspiring Curious Minds - and our school values of Respect, Integrity, Courage, and Community. At our kura, cultural diversity is valued, shared, and celebrated. Our school practices reflect New Zealand's cultural diversity while recognising the unique position of Māori culture and of Māori as tangata whenua in Aotearoa.
VISION & VALUES
Respect
We believe that respect forms the foundation of positive relationships, both within our school community and beyond. Our school dog, Serena, teaches care and respect for animals - as well as providing hugs when needed!
Courage
We encourage and support our students to step out of their comfort zone and embrace challenges. Being courageous helps our students to develop the resilience needed to succeed in an
ever-changing world.
Community
At Fox Glacier School, we strongly emphasise the importance of community and value collaboration.
We encourage our students to engage in both our school and local community, cultivating a sense of belonging and responsibility.
Integrity
Integrity is a fundamental value at our kura. We teach our students the importance of honesty, fairness, and ethical behaviour, promoting a strong moral compass that will guide students throughout their lives.
Our People
At Fox Glacier School we have passionate staff who use their wealth of
experience to nurture and empower
our students.
Staff are supported by our dedicated board members who make governance decisions based on what is best for our students and our kura.
Our school and students are supported by an active parent fundraising group, who organise 2 or 3 fundraisers
each year.
Learning
Our learning programme is designed to foster both a life-long love of learning, and a curiosity about the world we live in.
Rooted in the rugged beauty of the West Coast, we utilise our unique surroundings to foster an appreciation of, and respect for, nature and local culture. Our students understand that we are katiaki (guardians) of our beautiful home - charged with caring for it for future generations.
We are proud of our school and its facilities which include a heated pool, full-size tennis court, huge sports field, playgrounds, and more.
Our students are involved in a bee keeping venture with the local community, host schools from across South Westland for various events each year, and join with other schools for our annual senior camp,
