About Fox Glacier Kura

Our school embraces a warm and inclusive atmosphere, where children have the opportunity to learn and grow together, side by side with their friends and siblings, within the same classroom.

Our commitment to nurturing a close-knit community is reflected in our robust infrastructure, which includes two well-appointed classrooms that provide conducive learning spaces for our pupils. Additionally, we have a library/media room, an assembly room that serves as a hub for collective gatherings, a tennis court, a heated swimming pool, and an expansive sports field. Our playground caters to different age groups, while our art room encourages creativity and collaborative learning. There is a purpose-built and well equipped Playgroup on site for pre-schoolers.

Central to our educational approach is our localised curriculum, which fosters meaningful connections with the wider community. Through this curriculum, students gain valuable insights into the importance of caring for our unique and cherished Westland environment.

While we wear mufti at school day-to-day, there are select occasions when we proudly don our school uniforms. These occasions include sports days and out-of-school visits, where our uniforms serve as a symbol of unity and belonging. Our school uniforms are provided free of charge to students. Uniforms are returned when pupils leave the school, ensuring the sustainability of our stock.

At our school, we embrace the journey of education as a collaborative endeavour - one that nurtures not only academic growth but also the social and emotional development of our students. Through our close community, comprehensive facilities, and well-structured learning programmes, we are dedicated to cultivating compassionate individuals, who cherish both themselves and others, respect the environment, and possess the determination to overcome life's challenges.

Swimming Pool

We have our own heated indoor pool - the heart of aquatic learning at our school. With an unwavering focus on water safety, students thrive under the guidance of our teachers, ensuring a well-rounded education that extends beyond the classroom.

Whānau and the wider community are able

Tennis Court

At Fox Glacier School, we encourage active fun, and our tennis court is open for all pupils to enjoy, making it a hub of excitement and activity. This is a space where students often enjoy friendly tennis or basketball matches during breaks, or riding skateboards, bikes, and scooters on the full-size, concrete surface.

Play Areas

At Fox Glacier School, playtime is a journey of discovery and imagination.

Our playground features a slide, two sets of swings, a flying fox,  monkey bars, a tree hut, and a climbing wall.

Our sandpit invites young explorers to build, sculpt, and create.

Each corner of our school's play areas offer a new adventure waiting to be explored.

Sports Field

Our sports field is a great place for friendly ball games, providing further opportunity to hone our ball skills. There are rugby posts to practise kicking, and a purpose-built long jump down one side comes into its own during athletics season. The sports field is fully fenced and flat.

Accessibility

Fox Glacier Kura features wheelchair-accessible ramps that provide smooth entry to all essential areas within the school, accompanied by a fully equipped disability toilet. Additionally, the presence of concrete pathways in the outdoor areas ensures that wheelchair users can conveniently navigate through a majority of the outdoor spaces. The spacious classroom design, relative to the school's population, further facilitates easy movement for individuals using wheelchairs, allowing them to navigate comfortably between desks and other classroom elements.

Media Room/Library

The media room/library at our school serves as a versatile multi-functional space. It houses an extensive collection of both educational and inspiring books. In addition, the room is equipped with a projector and media screen, enabling teachers to effectively deliver educational content. This space also doubles as a storage area for the students' Apple laptops and ipads, and functions well as a break out space for both group and

independent work.

Playgroup

A purpose-built and well-equipped playgroup for the district's pre-school children is on-site. Parents run

twice-weekly sessions, and a visiting ECE teacher

takes sessions several times a term.
